Keep in mind also... once Light knows Zero’s name and face... it doesn’t matter where he is or when, he can just write down the name and kill him however. I very much doubt Light would openly confront Zero, it’s just not his style.

Well since I can be compare to both characters in a way. I say Light wins with the help of his loyal companion Misa. Long distance killing vs Lelouch who has to make contact with the victim. So that’s how it win end with Light asking Misa for a favor just by manipulating her into finding Lelouch. That will lead to certain death for our friend so called Zero.
Okay the main thing that makes things complicated is that they don’t know each other’s identities.
There are however, many things that go in Lelouch’s favor.
No. 1
Kira’s ability is known; he can kill someone with a name and a face. The fact that Lelouch has the ability to order people around is relatively unknown.
No. 2
Kira can kill people. He can manipulate them a bit before they die, but that is the limit of his powers. Lelouch can just use geass on someone to make him into his ally. If he ever suspects Misa of being a kira, then he can easily take control of her and have her kill both Light and herself. This is probably the deciding factor. Lelouch can infiltrate any part of society and enlist the help of innumerable allies, whereas Light pretty much works on his own. Heck if he were to meet the anti-kira squad (including Light), he could cast a geass on them and turn them into his minions; game over.

Geass can lie dormant very easily. Lelouch demonstrates that when he geasses Guilford. Even if Light kills Lelouch/Zero, there is a definite possibility that his plans will go through to the point where Light ends up dying anyways.
Sorry to Light fans,but I think things are skewed in favor of Lelouch. I mean, Kira has the advantage of being able to kill at a distance, but that’s about it. Lelouch’s geass has so much more flexibility.
As for their intelligence, they are about equal. However, I would still put my bets on Lelouch here. IMO even I wouldn’t have made some of the mistakes Kira makes at the end of the series. Put into the same situation, Lelouch would have won. Of course, Kira would have been able to kill most of Lelouch’s enemies easily, but Lelouch can conquer where Kira can only kill.
Yeah if he had prep time this fight would be over before it started.
Then again, doesn’t Light have to be looking at the guy, and also thinking about him at the same time, then write his name in the Death Note for it to work?
